My name is
Melissa Hansard. My husband and I have an 8-year-old daughter, Brittni Hamilton,
that has Cystic Fibrosis (CF).
I am proud to say that I am participating in the Great Strides
Walk-A-Thon on May 19th, 2001 and every year hereafter.
I would like to share this expedition as I join others in this walk
towards a cure for this disease. I’m sure
what I raise will seem minimal compared to what some others raise, but, as a
parent of a child with CF, I am aware of the extreme costs that it takes just
for the studies and testing for treatments and medicines to help people with CF
live longer lives, just to keep them as healthy as possible until a cure is
found. Therefore, I
know that ANY amount raised will surely help.
As I get more involved in these fundraisers, I have hopes to raise a
substantial amount for Cystic Fibrosis. I will be
taking pictures before, during, and after our walk.
I want to share with all of you who visit my site, the seriousness and
“Great Strides” that many of us take in this fight for a cure.
Along the way, I hope to make some new friends, and even form a support
group. My husband,
Bill, and I have 5 children between us.
Joshua who is 11, Brittni who will be 9 on May 29th, 2001,
John who is 8, Beki who is 4, and Brandi who is 1 ½ .
Brittni is our only child with CF. Although we know better, we have
always pretty much stuck with ourselves when it comes to dealing with having a
CF child. We have
never joined any support groups or gotten involved in the fundraisers.
I always say I’m going to, but then we get so busy and tired with
Brittni being on home I.V. about every 3 months,
BUT… This year,
I vowed to get more involved.
We know we are not the only parents going through rough and trying times
that are associated with CF. For those of you that deal directly with CF, I’m
sure you know how much of a toll it takes on the whole family.
And for those of you that don’t know… That’s
why I am taking the time to bring you this CF site.
To first, make you aware that it is out there; to tell you what it is and
what it entails. Then,
to give you the opportunity to check things out for your self and if compelled
to do so, take a step towards helping too. Thanks for visiting my pages and I hope you find them informative, helpful, and compelling. Be sure to check out the pictures from our Great Strides Walk-A-Thon.
